The purpose of Consultation is for the Virtual School Specialist Teacher, Educational Psychologist and setting staff to work together to plan support for Young People Looked After in your setting. The Key Adult for the LAYP student should also attend this consultation meeting.
In many cases, it will also be helpful for the Young Person / Carer and/or Social Worker to participate. The SW will need to authorise the case consultation for the young person using the attached consent form and return it before the Consultation.
The consultation will last for up to an hour, and we will discuss any concerns, difficulties, strengths and the strategies in place. The aim will be to identify a priority outcome and to agree on actions to address this. A review will be organised, which can take place over the phone or in person. In the end, all contributors will receive a copy of the notes. In some cases, we may agree with further work, such as a visit to the educational setting.
Case consultation is a way of thinking through concerns with an Education Psychologist. Concerns may refer to any aspects of preparing for adulthood, learning or behaviour etc. The approach is essentially solution orientated and aims to help you find a way of managing the situation that suits you and the Young Person.
